Mr Phong Tran

Orthopaedic Surgeon | MBBS (Hons) FRACS (Orth)

Mr. Tran, a Melbourne orthopaedic surgeon, completed his undergraduate training at Monash University in 1999and completed his training in orthopaedic surgery in 2007. In 2009 Mr. Tran undertook fellowship training at prestigious world-renowned orthopaedic centres in Germany specialising in sports injury, shoulder and arthroscopic surgery. During 2010 he continued his fellowship training with Mr. John O'Donnell, specialising in hip arthroscopy, femoracetabular impingement (FAI), and muscle-sparing anterior hip replacement.

Mr. Tran is dedicated to providing excellence in care in both public and private hospitals, and is the Head of Unit at Western Health (the largest orthopaedic unit in Victoria).

Mr. Tran has been awarded numerous prizes including 2001 NeurosurgeryPrize (RACS), 2002 Bennett Research Prize (RACS), 2002 Best Paper – Southern Trauma Symposium, and the 2007 Registrar Prize (AORA). In 2010 he was awarded the Western Health Innovation Award for his work on creating a Surgical Management System to improve patient care and outcomes.


Mr. Tran is the chief editor of the registrar training website "Orthofracs.com" and a multidisciplinary website dedicated to improving patient education and information and "Orthoanswer.org". He is also an assistant editor of Australian New Zealand Journal of Surgery.
