Myotherapy in East Melbourne
Myotherapy
Hands-on treatment for muscle pain, tightness and overload. Myotherapy works best alongside exercise and rehabilitation, as part of one plan shared with your physiotherapist and surgeon.

What myotherapy involves
Treatment may include soft tissue techniques, gentle joint mobilisation, stretching advice, education and simple exercises to do at home. Each session is adapted to the sore area, your comfort and the rest of your treatment plan.
When it may help
- Muscle-related pain
- Muscles that tighten up to protect a sore joint
- Discomfort around an arthritic hip, knee or shoulder
- Recovery after sport or heavy activity
- Support while you work through a physiotherapy program
It can ease symptoms in the short term, which often makes it easier to move and exercise.
Part of one care plan
Myotherapy at the clinic is coordinated with physiotherapy, biomechanical profile assessment and orthopaedic review when needed. The clinic’s myotherapist is Joanne Van de Haar. You can read more about her on Our team.
Ongoing pain, marked weakness, numbness or tingling, or pain after a major injury may need a medical or specialist assessment first.
What to expect
Your first appointment starts with a talk about your symptoms, health history and goals. Treatment stays within a comfortable range and is adjusted to how you respond. Let your myotherapist know about any concerns, or if your symptoms increase.
