Orthopaedic surgery

Professor Phong Tran is an orthopaedic surgeon who looks after the hip, knee and shoulder. Most of these problems get better with exercise and physiotherapy. If yours has not, an appointment with Professor Tran helps you work out whether an operation is likely to help, and what the other options are.

His main operations are anterior hip replacement, quadriceps-sparing (subvastus) knee replacement, and hip, knee and shoulder arthroscopy. He also performs hip labral repair, rotator cuff repair and shoulder replacement.

Physiotherapy

Associate Professor Amir Takla and Imogen Clark treat hip, knee and shoulder problems, sports injuries, and stiffness or weakness after an operation. Your first visit includes a full assessment and an exercise program to start at home.

The physiotherapists also run prehab to get you stronger before an operation, rehabilitation after surgery, and a biomechanical profile assessment that measures your strength and movement.

Myotherapy

Joanne Van de Haar is the clinic’s myotherapist. Treatment may include soft tissue techniques, gentle joint mobilisation, stretching advice and simple exercises to do at home. It can ease muscle pain and tightness in the short term, which often makes it easier to move and keep up with your exercises.
